The Desoto Hemi Table

I had an old Desoto Hemi engine with a cracked block that wasn't much use so I made it useful. The large crack was removed when I made the cut-away to reveal the domed cylinder on the head. All of the internal parts except for the visible piston were removed to lighten it. (still weighs aproximately 250lbs) The back panel and "oil pan" stand are custom made.

The glass top is custom made with an etched logo and to allow for the lamp (carburetor) assembly to come through the top.

This table was made from 3 pistons/rods out of an old seized Caterpillar engine I had. Once assembled I polished the pistons to a mirror finish. The base is made from a stainless steel drum cover. The flywheel gear accent is out of a late model Honda as well as the center piston that is inside the center mast. The glass top is quite heavy with a beveled edge.

Most people thought this was pulled from an aircraft engine due to the radial design so I later painted it up military markings to accomodate this idea.
